This is gonna be a really neat & sweet show, a gathering of three friends, whose names coincidentally sound really good together, playing their versions of folk music. A mid-summer’s dream. Miwa Gemini is traveling through on tour, from Brooklyn, NY; Moomaw moved away from the Bay Area to LA recently, so this is a reunion of sorts; & Ed Masuga is an east bay-er trekking to SF to blow us away with his fingerpicking song-writing genius. Good luck will come to all who attend.

Masuga (folk/blues/country/alt) headlines, Miwa (acoustic/indie/folk/western swing) is second, & Moomaw (psychadelic country) opens. The show will be interspersed with Jeremy & the Absurdists rendition of a soap opera (they were going to do a soap opera for the last show but got sidetracked becoming robots trying to understand the human emotion of love).

It’s also part of SeaweedSway’s 7th Year Anniversary series - 8 shows in July!

Below are stories, videos, & song links for the bands… Any help spreading the word is greatly appreciated.

Masuga (folk, blues, country, alternative)
Ed Masuga is a finger-picking maniac; a one man folk and blues orchestra of beautiful clanks and calls.

Ed Masuga is the youngest of ten siblings. After bringing him home as a newborn with the birth tag “Boy Masuga” on his wrist, his parents ended up calling him “Boy” for the first few years of his life. When they started calling him “Danny,” a shortened version of his given name, he refused, preferring to go by his middle name. So struck was he by a popular country star of the time, young Ed Masuga would reply to those calling him “Danny” by saying, “I’m not Danny. I’m Eddie. Eddie Rabbit.”

His drifting family was never satisfied in any one place for too long, and he grew up wandering between shacks, motels, casinos, trailers, forests, and barroom kitchens. At two years old he saw his dad compete on the game show “Name That Tune,” and though the appearance netted just a juke box and a trip to Puerto Rico, Ed’s future as a traveling musician had been fully inspired.

Miwa (acoustic-indie-folk-western swing)
In Miwa Gemini’s music we hear elements as disparate as the intense atmospheres of The Doors, Chris Garneau’s pop experiments, Tom Waits’ decadent sonic carnival. Miwa’s delicate, magical soprano defies all comparisons contributing to a sound that’s quite unique in today’s overcrowded music scene.

Miwa sings and plays the guitar and the banjo with her sidekick porcelain cat Sasha. Aaron on Accordion and Glockenspiel joins her on stage frequently. Her new album is out on Rockpark Records.

“Singer-songwriter Miwa Gemini can take your breath away. Her single “Goodnight Trail” just stopped this blogger’s day dead in its tracks. Whatever the roots and reasons “Goodnight Trail” carries you away to a storybook world and gives you a very real sinking feeling at the same time. It’s a neat trick that makes her forthcoming third album The Fantastic Lies of Grizzly Rose one to watch for.”

Moomaw (psychedelic country)
“Crafted from old bones and new hardware, Moomaw builds shaky songs that remain intimate while drifting and charging off in to masked territory, the sound of waves on the beach bleeding into the hissing of the highway. With the love of lyric and the joy of risk, Moomaw finds those places where delicate folk meets heedless disco, stumbling out into avant noise and ambience before returning home to heartbreaks and vision quests. Hear synthesizers and hand percussion, drum machines and ukelele, vocal loops and musical saw join in chorus with grace and humility. Listen to Moomaw.”

Channeling the psychedelic sounds of 60s pop music through nostalgic folk and Western, Moomaw sountracks the moment that one starts to feel oneself dreaming. Using a plethora of insruments, from ukuleles to dulcimer to singing saw, Moomaw cascades jangly loops of sound and harmonizes over them.

Megalolaopus, squeaking rusted, none but a sparkling minddrop of mythical dew. And the trip has ended, back to LA with it’s pulsating purple and neon red, bastardly mingling among the patterns.

But Europe, oh Europe. Freaking out with Shalants long the coast of Catalunya and then to France for far out shows in Toulouse and Paris. All Day Jah Voo. What The Folk posted a great blog about our show at a flat in Paris:

And, my Lord, I keep forgetting to mention a wonderful publication that has featured Moomaw in its last publication. Support independent love!

Lastly, and I say that there also is no last, Physical Release has posted another digital single on the Physical Release site: physicalrelease.us The following songs, Wahl Ballads and Let’s Do Something Wicked:
